Building Development

Whatever you are planning to develop in the built environment – be it a residential neighbourhood or condominium, a commercial tower or retail plaza, a school or hospital, a hotel or sports & entertainment complex – chances are some type of noise and vibration assessment will be mandated by your provincial/state or local regulatory authority at one or more stages of your project, as part of a permitting and compliance process.

Noise and Vibration Impact Studies and Environmental Noise and Vibration Assessments can be required at the onset, during the land use planning phase. Some municipal bylaws like those in Toronto require that a Construction Vibration Monitoring and Assessment be conducted in support of an application for a building or foundation permit. Sound Transmission Class (STC) and Impact Insulation Class (IIC) Testing in accordance with ASTM or ISO standards can be mandated to verify compliance of constructions with design targets or regulatory guidelines. Furthermore, developers planning to build a new residential project in the Province of Ontario must comply with the design and site review requirements of Tarion Builder Bulletin 19R, as part of Ontario’s New Home Warranties Plan Act.

HGC Engineering has the experience and technical resources and know-how to deliver cost-effective acoustical consulting services in support of any or all of your permitting and compliance process needs and challenges, no matter the built environment project, location or regulatory jurisdiction.

I first used HGC expertise some 17 years ago to solve a very tricky problem with commercial exhaust fan noise on a hotel project. HGC’s solution was so effective in reducing the fan noise level that it quelled all complaints from neighbors. Since that time I have used HGC expertise on a variety of Independent School projects with the primary emphasis on sound attenuation within the buildings and help with theatre acoustics. They are consummate professionals.”

We have worked with HGC Engineering on multiple projects in which the acoustics of a space has been critical.  This includes two performance theatres, university teaching environments, and multiple churches.  In all instances, we have been very pleased with the results.”
