A Global Perspective

In addition, our customers value our ability to provide the broad perspective and expertise needed for large projects with a local, nation-wide and international scope.

We are also North American leaders in the use of sound intensity measurement techniques needed to obtain accurate results even in demanding and multifarious industrial environments. In addition, we have pioneered techniques which utilize surface vibration measurements of metal stack walls in order to estimate noise radiated by stacks which previously were too high to allow measurement at the noise source.

Environmental Compliance Approvals (Formerly Certificates of Approval – CofAs)

Closer to home, HGC has assisted industries in virtually every business sector complete the requirements for their Environmental Compliance Approvals (ECAs) as required by the Ontario Ministry of the Environment (MOE). In fact we helped introduce the first province-wide, multi-site Certificate of Approval for Union Gas facilities across Ontario. We are well versed on the requirements of multi-site approvals and maintain good working relations with both the MOE. We are also very familiar with the regulations and noise approval process required by the Ministry of Natural Resources for pits and quarries.

Adjacent Residential Developments

In an effort to combat urban sprawl many municipalities have invoked urban intensification policies, with the result that more and more noise sensitive communities are being developed in rezoned brownfield areas living side-by-side with still active industry. We have extensive experience assessing and designing means of noise and vibration mitigation where new developments have encroached in both urban and suburban settings. We have also acted as expert witnesses in disputes over rezoning applications of these kind.
