Petr Chocensky PhD, PEng Associate, Senior acoustical consultant

As the leader of our Montreal office, Petr possesses versatile experience in noise, vibration and acoustics to serve our clients in Quebec, Ottawa and Cornwall regions of Ontario, Maritime Provinces, and selected regions of the United States.

He specializes in development of noise control solutions for mechanical equipment at industrial and commercial operations. His clients will have the confidence that the exact equipment requiring noise abatement will be identified and the most appropriate solutions found. He uses state-of-the-art techniques, including sound intensity methods and computer modelling of sound propagation, to ensure that the noise under consideration belongs to the operation under assessment – and not something else. He has developed detailed noise control plans for hundreds of facilities – small and large. His work for the McInnis Cement Plant, St Marys Cement, Shell’s Sarnia Manufacturing Centre or TransAlta’s Sarnia Regional Cogeneration Plant demonstrates the complexity of a few projects he has undertaken. These skills and experience make Petr our in-house specialist in completing documentation to support applications for regulatory noise approvals and addressing requirements of occupational health and safety guidelines.

With a PhD in tire/road noise generating mechanism, Petr has particular interest in traffic-related projects, which makes him our select expert in road, railway, and airport noise assessments. His work portfolio includes development of multiple national-scale noise mapping projects using computer modelling, managing long-terms noise and vibration monitoring campaigns, and research work towards updating computerized noise prediction methods. Examples of work in this category include assessments of the CN Rail Taschereau Yard in Montreal and the Port of Trois-Rivières.

His exposure to regulatory environments in North America, including Québec, Ontario, and the United States, and within the European Union was critical in evaluation of approaches to application of noise criteria around the world, developed for internal use of the International Financial Institution of the World Bank.

Besides his focus on solutions for industrial and transportation sectors, Petr’s skills are perfectly tuned to addressing noise control issues in the built environment, both commercial and residential, as demonstrated by his work at One Bloor, MaRS Discovery District, Women’s College Hospital, Lakeridge Health, and many others.
