Ear to the Ground

Free 4-part Webinar Series on Workplace Noise runs until November 24th

workplace noise health and safety

Everything you wanted to know about Workplace Noise but were afraid to ask.

HGC Engineering is offering this free 4-part webinar series on workplace noise fundamentals that started October 13th and will be running every two weeks until November 24th. This online educational program was developed by our knowledgeable acoustical engineering team to meet the practical needs of occupational health and safety practitioners in manufacturing and industry. At 30 minutes each (plus Q&A), these webinar sessions are designed to be short, but informative.  Take a break with us while you work from home or office, and you’re guaranteed to pick up some sound knowledge you can use without taking up a lot of your time.

Workplace noise 101

Webinar #1: Workplace Noise 101

Learn all about the basics of sound, including some of the common terminology used by acoustical consultants:

  • What is sound; when is it good and when is it bad?
  • What limits exist for workplace noise?
  • How do we determine workplace noise exposure?
  • What do you do if there are noise excesses?
  • Why do we need to consider the frequency characteristics such as octave bands?

Join us for this 30-minute webinar followed by a short Q&A.

This webinar took place on Tuesday, October 13th at 12:30 PM EST/10:30 AM MST

Presenter: Ian Bonsma, Senior Associate and Manager Western Region @HGC Engineering

Workplace Noise Assessments

Webinar #2:  Basics of Workplace Noise Assessments & Noise Control Studies

Learn about the basics of completing a workplace noise survey and, where required, investigating workplace noise control:

  • Why do we assess noise in the workplace?
  • What methods can we use, and what are the pros & cons?
  • What does a workplace noise survey report look like?
  • My workplace noise survey has identified sound levels above a regulatory limit. Now what?

Join us for this 30-minute webinar followed by a short Q&A.

This webinar took place on Tuesday, October 27th at 12:30 PM EST/10:30 AM MST

Presenter: Corey Kinart,  Senior Associate @HGC Engineering

Noise Dosimetry in the workplace

Webinar #3: “High Definition” Noise Dosimetry

Recent advances in digital signal processing technology have led to the introduction of new noise dosimetry methods. Learn about when, why, and how new “High Definition” dosimetry should be used, including:

· What is dosimetry (versus spot measurements)
· When and why to use dosimetry (versus spot measurements)
· Serious shortcomings of traditional dosimetry
· Video demonstration of “High Definition” dosimetry measurements and analysis

Webinar #4: Demystifying Workplace Noise Control

Learn what works and what does not work to control noise in the workplace, including:

  • How noise source identification, quantification, and ranking is accomplished
  • The four parameters that determine the noise level in a workplace
  • The three (and only three) ways of reducing workplace noise
  • The most common noise control measures, how they work, and where they do not
  • Common errors and pitfalls in workplace noise control

Join us for this 30-minute webinar followed by a short Q&A.

This webinar will take place on Tuesday, November 24th at 12:30 PM EST/10:30 AM MST
