Victor Diamond Mine
Location: Attawapiskat Lake, Ontario
Owner/Operator: De Beers Canada Inc.
The Victor Diamond Mine was the first Canadian diamond mine located in Ontario, and De Beers’ second diamond mine in Canada before its closure in 2019. HGC conducted a full environmental assessment and permitting for this northern open pit mine. Sound level monitoring and Noise Impact Assessments were conducted at six month intervals during the construction and preliminary operation stage of the facility. The primary focus was noise impact into the surrounding environment, with ancillary work to assess occupational noise exposure. Sound levels were generally found to be within targeted criteria, such that investigation of noise control measures was not needed.
Acoustical consulting services delivered:
- Conducted detailed acoustical assessment reports and audits in accordance with The Ontario Ministry of the Environment Guidelines in support of an Environmental Assessment for the site
- Developed noise controls/specifications for new equipment
- Conducted sound level monitoring of ongoing operations at the facility
