Union Gas Facilities

Ontario-Wide

Location: Facilities across Ontario, Canada
Owner/Operator: Union Gas
Environmental ConsultantOrtech Environmental

Union Gas is the second largest natural gas utility in Canada. Through a network of about 38,961 miles of distribution mainlines and service lines, Union Gas delivers safe, reliable and affordable natural gas service to over 1.4 million residential, commercial and industrial customers in more than 400 communities across northern, southwestern and eastern Ontario.

Pioneers in Unified, Multi-Site Noise Compliance and Approvals
In association with Ortech Environmental, HGC obtained the first ever Province-Wide, Multi-Site, Air and Noise Environmental Compliance Approval for Union Gas — consolidating all its facilities across the Province under a single umbrella document saving both Union Gas and the Ontario Ministry of the Environment (MOE) extensive resources and manpower in terms of detailed assessments and review through a series of protocols and screening tools incorporating a Risk-Based Management Approach.

For utilities and other similar entities, in other jurisdictions world-wide, looking to replicate this model, we offer consulting services that can help you investigate and implement this self-regulation model in collaboration with environmental governing bodies. Our consulting services also includes the development of screening models and tools for prioritization and risk-based management.

Acoustical consulting services delivered:

  • Prepared applications
  • Conduct audit measurements for MOE compliance  purposes
  • Conducted detailed acoustical assessment reports and audits in accordance with MOE procedures for facility approvals
  • Specified noise controls for new compression plant and distributed station facilities
  • Developed noise control plans
