Completed in 2017, the Sun Life Financial Tower is a 800,000 ft², 35-storey, LEED Platinum office tower in Toronto’s South Core. One of the major and advanced Platinum-worthy features of the Tower is its deep lake water cooling system which uses water from Lake Ontario for building air-conditioning. HGC Engineering provided comprehensive base-building acoustical engineering services to the Tower through design and construction, including construction vibration monitoring, planning studies for the municipality, building envelope studies to optimize acoustical performance of the curtain wall glazing directly adjacent to the Gardiner highway, reviews of the DD and CD drawings, and reports to support licensing from the MOE. The project is part of a larger mixed-use development occupying the two-acre site. The office tower sits atop a four-storey podium containing approximately 200,000 ft² of retail space. Sharing the podium is Harbour Plaza Residences, 62- and 66-storey luxury condo towers which we also consulted on.
