Sun Life Financial Tower + Harbour Plaza Residences

Sunlife Financial Tower is a 800,000 ft², 35-storey, LEED Platinum office tower in Toronto’s South Core. One of the major advanced Platinum-worthy features of the Sunlife Financial Tower is its deep lake water cooling system which uses water from Lake Ontario for building air-conditioning. HGC  provided comprehensive base-building acoustical engineering services to the Tower through design and construction, including planning studies for the municipality, building envelope studies to optimize acoustical performance of the curtain wall glazing directly adjacent to the highway, reviews of the DD and CD drawings, and reports to support licensing from the Ontario Ministry of the Environment. The project is part of a larger mixed-use development occupying a two-acre site. The office tower sits atop a four-storey podium containing approximately 200,000 ft² of retail space. Sharing the podium are the Harbour Plaza Residences, featuring two residential condominium towers, at 62- and 66-storeys.  HGC was also the acoustical consultant for the Residences, and provided the building envelope noise review and design, as well as the internal review for architectural and building services design and construction support for Tarion Builder’s Bulletin 19.
