St Matthew’s House is a charitable, non-profit multi-service agency. The agency provides programs and services to meet the needs of families, children and seniors seeking assistance and support in Hamilton, Ontario. The property, next door to the agency at 412 Barton Street in the city’s Landsdale neighbourhood, will be redeveloped into a proposed 6-storey affordable rental apartment featuring 15 affordable residential units; a community food security centre; a public café space; as well as a laundry facility and storage spaces for residences.
The supportive housing at St. Matthews house will address seniors facing homelessness, with a special focus on Indigenous and Black older adults 55+, designating 50% of the units for women. The use of prefabricated modular, mass timber components which are factory-built and then easily assembled on-site will significantly help reduce the construction schedule while also delivering cost savings over a traditional site-built project. HGC is providing comprehensive acoustical services for this project.
