Pinewood Toronto Studios (formerly known as Filmport) is a major film and television studio complex and the largest of its kind in Canada. It is the first in Toronto capable of accommodating the production of large blockbuster movies. The 11-hectare lot features seven purpose-built soundstages and one converted warehouse, ranging from 10,000 square feet to 46,000 square feet.
The largest soundstage, called the Mega Stage, is more than 46,000 square feet and is the largest purpose-built soundstage in North America. The facilities are designed to accommodate the production of five simultaneous mid sized feature films, or two massive projects.
HGC was retained by Pinewood Toronto Studios to perform audit measurements of acoustical performance parameters of the facility’s stages. Based on the assessment results, we also proposed noise abatement remedies where and as required.
Acoustical consulting services delivered:
- Time-average and spatial-average background sound levels measurements in the stages
- Transient sound intrusions measurements into the stages from a typical diesel truck passing by the exterior overhead door, and other building facilities
- Sound insulation measurements of three exterior overhead stage doors, and a demising assembly between adjacent stages were also tested.
