Motor City Dubai Noise Study

Location: Dubai United Arab Emirate
Owner/Operators: Autodrome, Dubai Motor City,

Dubai Motor City is a major master-planned community in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The development is based on a motor-sport theme and includes residential units, business towers, retail zones, a theme park and the Dubai Autodrome. The Dubai Autodrome is an FIA sanctioned 5.390 km (3.349 mi) motorsports circuit. Since 2006 the Autodrome has been home to the Dubai 24 Hour, a GT, sports car and touring car automobile endurance race open to both professional and semi-professional teams. The circuit has FIA Grade 1 license, which means that it has all the requirements to host a Formula One race. The venue has hosted multiple world-class racing events including: UAE Touring Car Championship, UAE GT Championship, NGK Racing Series, UAE Clio Cup and UAE Sportbikes Championship. The Kartdrome which is part of the Autodrome complex is an international standard karting track situated across the boulevard from the Dubai Autodrome main straight.

Dubai Autodrome-MotorcityHGC was contracted by the developers of the residential communities of Motor City who wanted to get an indication of the noise impact of the Autodrome during typical motor racing events

To accomplish this we measured typical ambient sound levels from road traffic and the sounds of nature at numerous locations throughout the Motor City development and compared them to sound levels which occur during typical motor racing events at the adjacent Dubai Autodrome.

We were also contracted to assess ambient sound levels from road traffic and the sounds of nature which occurred within a new residential development in Mirdif, near the Dubai International Airport, and compare those ambient sound levels to the typical sound levels of the intrusive events of aircraft flyovers. This gave us an indication of the noise impact of the aircraft on the Midrif development. Dubai International Airport is the primary international airport serving Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, and is the world’s busiest airport by international passenger traffic

Ultimately, the two different noise impacts study reports were presented to the Municipality of Dubai to demonstrate the comparative impacts of the Autodrome Raceway events and Airport flyovers on the two adjacent developments.
