Leviathan Roller Coaster

Location: Vaughan, Ontario, Canada
Owner/OperatorCanada’s Wonderland
Designer: Bolliger & Mabillard

Leviathan, located at Canada’s Wonderland, is the tallest and fastest roller coaster in Canada. The Leviathan is also ranked as the seventh-tallest, and the eighth-fastest roller coaster in the world, and the third-tallest traditional lift-style coaster in the world. The steel coaster opened to season pass holders at the Park in April 2012.

HGC Engineering was asked to conduct an assessment of sound produced by the ride at neighboring residential locations. Our acoustical consultants worked with Park staff to have the coaster operate for a series of ten minute periods following a normal sequence to represent loading and unloading of riders, with breaks in between, while they completed measurements under both ambient and operating condition at several representative locations within the nearby community. We then proposed potential mitigation solutions.

We have worked on a variety of projects for Canada’s Wonderland dating as far back as 1997 including an assessment of the “Behemoth” roller coaster and the Kingswood Music Theatre. Wonderland is Canada’s first major theme park and is still today the largest and most popular theme park in Canada.
