Greensview Apartments, Saskatchewan
Location: Emerald Park, Saskatchewan
Developer: Greensview Estates Development
Civil Engineering: WCE Design
HGC Noise Vibration Acoustics was retained to conduct a road traffic noise study for the proposed multi-storey residential development known as Greensview Apartments, located in Emerald Park, in the Regional Municipality of Edenwold Park No. 158, Saskatchewan near Regina. The traffic noise study was requested by the Regional Municipality as the development is located in proximity to the Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 1).
Seven 3-storey buildings were slated to be constructed along Great Plains Road, which acts as a service road for the Trans-Canada Highway. One common outdoor amenity space was included at the center of the development.
Road Traffic Noise Prediction
To assess the levels of road traffic noise which would impact the site in the future, predictions were modelled using CadnaA (Computer Aided Noise Abatement) which is the leading software for calculation, presentation, assessment and prediction of environmental noise. The program includes an implementation of the Traffic Noise Model (TNM) developed by the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration. It is standard industry practice for major Canadian jurisdictions to use CadnaA with the implementation of TNM 2.5 for road traffic noise assessments.
The predicted sound levels were compared to the sound level limits outlined in the City of Saskatoon “Traffic Noise Sound Attenuation Policy”, Policy Number C07-028. Where warranted, recommendations for noise control were provided.
