In September of 2021, Alberta Infrastructure awarded Concert-Bird Partners the design, build, finance, and maintain (DBFM) contract for five Alberta high schools including two in Edmonton and one each in Blackfalds, Leduc, and Langdon. Concert-Bird Partners is a consortium consisting of Bird Capital Limited Partnership, Bird Design-Build Construction Inc., Concert Infrastructure Ltd., Ainsworth Inc., BR2 Architecture and Wright Construction Western Inc.
Using this public-private partnership (P3) model, the schools, which opened in 2024, together now accommodates nearly 7,000 students and include approximately 650,000 square feet of permanent structure space.
The five Alberta high schools are:
- Iron Ridge Secondary Campus in Blackfalds, Wolf Creek Public Schools
- Elder Dr. Francis Whiskeyjack School in Edmonton, Edmonton Public Schools
- Father Michael McCaffery Catholic High School in Edmonton, Edmonton Catholic Schools
- Horseshoe Crossing High School in Langdon, Rocky View Schools
- Ohpaho Secondary School in Leduc, Black Gold School Division
Designs for the schools included considerations for optimized building performance, energy conservation and other sustainable building features, including achieving a LEED Silver Certification. As part of the winning consortium, HGC provided all acoustical related services for these schools.
Acoustical Consulting Services Include:
- HVAC sound assessment
- Interior acoustic assessment (reverberation times) and product specification and placement.
CadnaR employed for several complex spaces. - Sound separation assessment (demising walls and floor/ceiling)
- Environmental noise assessment (exterior noise impacting the school and equipment at the school impacting neighbors).
