Dubai International Airport serves the largest city within the United Arab Emirates. It is a the aviation hub at the heart of the Middle East as well as Dubai’s main airport. It is located in the district of Al Garhoud, about 2.5 miles southeast of Dubai. The Airport is ranked the twelfth busiest in the world in terms of passenger traffic, this after handling passengers totaling 40.9 million.
HGC Engineering was contracted to provide building services design, including specification of noise control hardware for the airport’s newest terminal buildings.
We were also contracted to assess ambient sound levels from road traffic and the sounds of nature which occurred within a new residential development in Mirdif, near the Dubai International Airport, and compare those ambient sound levels to the typical sound levels of the intrusive events of aircraft flyovers. This gave us an indication of the noise impact of the aircraft on the Midrif development.
This noise impact study report was then presented to the Municipality of Dubai to demonstrate the potential impact of aircraft flyovers on the Midrif development.
