160 Front Street West
Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Developer: Cadillac Fairview
Architects: AS + GG Architecture, B+H Architects
160 Front Street West is a 46-storey, 1.2 million sq. ft. commercial office tower located on the western edge of Toronto’s Financial District Situated in the heart of downtown close to Union Station. The development retains the façade of a six-story heritage building, and will include 12,290 sq. ft. of retail space at its base.
The building’s unique form was sculpted in response to extensive environmental analysis, one of which included that the main axis of the building should ideally be oriented parallel to the direction of the site’s prevailing winds, minimizing its resistance to the wind’s lateral loads. The resulting design is tapered both at the top and the bottom, assisting the structure when resisting wind, minimizing its effect on the pedestrian realm. The interior of the building features an expansive 33-foot tall lobby with floor-to-ceiling glazing and stone finishes.
The tower is designed to achieve LEED Platinum and WELL Building Standard certifications. Once operational, 160 Front Street West will be subject to the standards of Cadillac Fairview’s “Green at Work” sustainability program. Daylight harvesting controls will help the building yield significant savings in lighting energy consumption and maximize the energy-saving potential of the building’s high-performance curtain wall system.
The building’s main tenant will be TD Bank who will have a bank branch on the ground floor.
